Queen Elizabeth National Park


Queen Elizabeth National park is located in the western part of Uganda, 5-6 hours from Kampala. It is bordered to the North by the Rwenzori and to the West by Lake Edward. The park comprises of the Kyambura and Kigezi wild life reserves thus covering 2475 square kilometers. Its temperatures range from18 degrees to 280.

The wettest seasons in this Park are usually from March to May and September to November .The annual rains received range from 750mm to 1250mm .The altitude ranges from 910m above sea level at Lake Edward vicinity to 1,390 m above sea level in the crater area. The park has a recorded 95 mammal species and 606 bird species. The park hosts a wide range of habitats ranging from savanna and wetlands to riverine and low land forest, beautiful terrain and scenic panorama and waters.

The park has 250 square kilometers of Lake Shores which include Lake George, Lake Edward, the Kazinga Channels, Ishasha River and a series of crater lakes which provide a habitat mammals and birds. The park is a home to predators such as lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, jackals and antelope species such as, Oribi, Topi, Sitatunga bush back, water buck, and four species of duiker. Big Mammals in this park include; buffalos, elephants, hippos among others.
