LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

Lake Mburo National Parkis located 250 km from Kampala in Mbarara district, just about 3.5 hours drive from Kampala. The history behind its name is so interesting. Two brothers, Kigarama and Mburo lived in a large valley. One night, Kigarama dreamt that heavy rains would flood the valley and both would be killed. Kigarama advised his younger brother Mburo to vacate the area but Mburo dismissed his claims. A few days later the floods came and a lake was formed, drowning Mburo. Today the lake is named after him, and the hills are called Kigarama after his brother.
