CHIMPANZEE SAFARIS UGANDA

Chimpazees are globally endangered because their populations are declining rapidly where they occur. Much of the decline is due to the bush meat trade and loss of habitat. Uganda’s chimpanzee population is thought to be less threatened by hunting than elsewhere in Africa because Ugandans do not generally eat primate meat. A more significant threat to the chimpanzees in Uganda are the snares set for other species such as bushpigs and antelopes. At least 2% of habituated chimpanzees in Uganda have injured limbs as a result of snares and we do not know what proportion that are trapped survive with injuries and how many die in the process.

Facts about chimpazees

Social and Vocal

Chimpazees are highly social. If food availability permits, they are likely to congregate into large parties, which can consist of the majority of the community, reaching over fifty chimpazees in one tree.

  • Chimpazees are amongst the noisiest of all African animals, offering excitement for the observers. Moreover, vocalizations can help trackers locate the Chimpanzees
