Chimpazees are globally endangered because their populations are declining rapidly where they occur. Much of the decline is due to the bush meat trade and loss of habitat. Uganda's chimpanzee population is thought to be less threatened by hunting than elsewhere in Africa because Ugandans do not generally eat primate meat.
